Art Direction
The image as a system
Image · LEARN

Art direction is not making one image — it is deciding what all the images should be. The art director sets the visual idea for a campaign, a magazine, or a brand, then directs photographers, illustrators, and stylists to realize it consistently.
The craft is in the brief and the edit. A good art director can describe the feeling before anything exists, recognize it when it appears, and say no to everything that dilutes it.
Art direction is where taste becomes a professional skill: a defensible point of view about how a thing should look, held steady across hundreds of decisions.
